Roses

Unsatisfied

Lacking

Never enough

Forever wanting

Always reaching

Never giving upward

But always to the roots downward

Never offering freely

Always reaching carefully

Never granting without expecting

Never building without destroying

She who rises from the Earth

The place of her birth

With the shit, and the worms, and the decay of life

Born is the snakebird, a swan with a knife

To bloom like a rose

But then she froze

When the deathly frost came

Again and again

Some nights the sky danced electric green

Calling for spirits awake yet unseen

While the clouds bloomed forget-me-not and lavender

Through the rose tinted eye of wonder

With the wind and the frost in a spiral dance

The Snowrose grows in a trance

With blood of the Earth

And water frozen in Song

The day grows short; while the night, long.
