Big Bad Wolf

Are you afraid of the big bad wolf?

Is she close or is he far?

How can you tell sitting in your car?

Perhaps ask a question to the moon

Ask it some time after noon:

What’s the time big bad wolf?

Listen quietly for an answer

Just after the rising of cancer

Tick tock, tick tock

Goes the clock

Tick tock, tick tock

Is it in your right hand?

Or your left?

How did you find the time with grace not heft?

Are you feeling lost and bereft?

Tick tock, tick tock

Goes the clock

Tick tock, tick tock

Which hand is it?

Wait a second or a minute.

Is the hand large or is it small?

Why is the hour hand short and wide, not tall?

The seconds go fast round and round

Making a familiar cyclical sound

A constant beat goes the clock

First a tick, then a tock,

Quartz stone sending sonic waves

With a constant charge so it behaves

Making the crystal sing two times six

Ringing a bell with tocks and ticks

Striking the stone in even thyme

With sticks to keep the rhythm and rhyme

Tick tock, tick tock

Goes the clock

Tick tock, tick tock

The wolf then howls to the moon

An empty sound soon after noon

Where is the big bad wolf? You asked.

Hiding in a box

Full of rocks

Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock

Goes the clock

Deep in a cave

With an undulating wave

From the arch of the sole

A cavernous hole

Up and down goes the sign

In the middle marks the rhyme

Feel the silence between each beat

Where life and death always meet
